Second Half of The Inn brings us back to the Equipment shop where we discuss video gamepads and their progression over the years. Matt remembers his struggles adapting to "Dual Analogue sticks" which naturally leads to fluffernutter recipes. Matt corrects a grave LOTR mistake. The duo discuss a ton off non-E3 trailers, Siri vs Ciri, remakes vs remasters, and d(e)ck building games.
Welcome back to the next part of the episode. Be sure to check out part one if you haven't already.
Matt's Equipment Emporium
SPEAKER_01Alright, this seems to be uh like a retrospective episode. So let's keep it going, even as we walk through my shop of wares. Let's talk about controllers, or I guess specifically game pads. Ooh. Over the years. So you're well no, you're when you talk about the Atari, they weren't really game pads, they were joysticks, those weird joysticks. Let's not talk about that. Let's go into so we'll start with the the Ness. Your classic gray those gray game pads and that iconic, very hard to hold, very hard to use nowadays. The square. Yeah, the square control.
SPEAKER_02Rectangle, I should say. Sorry, rectangle.
SPEAKER_01You know, and then and then we've you smoke slowly morphed over the years, uh, you know, to rounded and yes, got and you started to introduce shoulder buttons.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then you were how complicated did they get, you know, quick.
SPEAKER_01It was pretty quick, like they were because they just had to add a lot of buttons.
SPEAKER_02And you know what's kind of crazy, you just reminded me, like, remember the Nintendo 64 with that little weird try.
SPEAKER_01So a Nintendo had a different thought. They were like, let's make it awkward. Yeah, like you had three handles.
SPEAKER_02So like which way you hold it, yeah. And it only had one, and like I remember I played a Nintendo 64. Golden eye. Yeah, maybe like, yeah, not too long ago. I mean, like, not oh no, I'm not talking about childhood. I just played one, I think it was at a how oh yeah, it was like at an Airbnb, and they just had a Nintendo 64 as one of their like perks. Yeah, and I played a game and it only had I don't know if people remember, but only had one analog joystick. Yes, and so that did all your looking, but you couldn't move with it, so it was just a looking mechanism. Yeah, what happened? And you use the arrows to move, right? So it was so foreign to me because you have two now, two analog sticks, one to look, one to move. It was so weird, it blew my mind, and I couldn't, I literally couldn't play the game anymore because I was like, this is just foreign to me now.
SPEAKER_01That is that is so funny to me because I clearly remember. So I for a while I was a PC gamer before you. Right. Yes. So my first real delve into first-person shooters with uh was a MK mouse and keyboard. Right. So I was used to you know the movement with my left hand on the uh WASDIS and and look on the mouse. Right. And I remember when PlayStation went dual analog. Um, if you remember, but they went oh, they went dual analog at the end of the PS1, and I think your elevator scene game was one of the first games to use Fear Effect. I think it was one of the first games to use dual analog.
SPEAKER_02Really? Yes!
SPEAKER_01Oh I will I'm just gonna say yes.
SPEAKER_02Alright, it's a fact, it's a fact.
SPEAKER_01We're officially calling that. Um, so that those are very rare, though those gray uh dual analog. Yeah, but that was obviously a thing for the the PS uh two, yeah, and I remember us playing um at your sister's wedding um Time Splitters 2. Oh, yeah, and how terrible I was at it because the that time I'd never done the dull analog, uh and I was so used to the mouse and keyboard. I literally couldn't, I could either move or look. Right, I could not do them at the same time, yeah. So I was always like side strafing, stop, yeah, turn, shoot someone, like and you guys are just killing me because you two picked up on immediately. Yeah, I think it was just because I was so ingrained into another method, right? Like if I had just not known anything, yeah, I would have been fine with it. But it took me forever. It's crazy. Now I could, you know, strafe and shoot like.
SPEAKER_02It doesn't even it seem you don't even have to think about it.
SPEAKER_01But at that time, yeah, oh man, that's and then yeah, it's just it's crazy how things have come and how natural that is to us.
SPEAKER_02Like the goal and it doesn't, it doesn't like, yeah, it doesn't even seem like that. That's the way it should have been, I should say. That's the way it feels like natural, yeah. And and a little side note, side note, yeah, at my that that I do remember playing Time Splitters because we were in a hotel room and I taught you guys the secret to a good fluffernutter.
SPEAKER_01I was just thinking that, man. You would you had been talking it up for weeks. You're like, there's a secret ingredient. Because I had just learned about fluffernutters not long before that. I had no idea. This isn't sexual, folks. No, no, it's a real sandwich. Well, yeah, a fluffernutter. Go ahead, and explain what a fluffernutter is, first of all.
SPEAKER_02We all know what a peanut butter and jelly is, it's a spin-off. And everybody, and anybody who's kind of in the either know knows that fluff is a marshmallow product.
SPEAKER_01It's without the the form, I guess. It's jarred much marsh.
SPEAKER_02It's just the inner marsh.
SPEAKER_01Do they still make that? I don't know. Dude, we're gonna have to have that. We're gonna have a fluff and nutter. That is like a fluff or nutter now. Is probably like eating a fluff nutter sandwich is probably more sugar than an intake in a month.
SPEAKER_02Honestly, though, fluff is more just like it's like cotton candy. It's like it's not ton of two. Anyways, yeah, uh, but the key ingredient.
SPEAKER_01And then you were so here, here, you you were yeah, you were you're talking up forever. I did it up to the key ingredient, the key ingredient.
SPEAKER_02Matt, Matt, do you want to talk about it? Was it disappointing?
SPEAKER_01No, all I was gonna say is I remembered you wouldn't, you would not, you would not say. And I remember like picking you up or something, yeah. And I remember you're like, Don't look, don't look. And I saw you had like foil. That's right.
SPEAKER_02You do remember this.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and I'm like, and I've I'm like bracking my mind trying to figure out what is in this foil. That there's the key ingredients of foil for now.
SPEAKER_02Like, you know, sometimes you you tell tall tales and then you you twist the story around, but Matt remembers this vividly because there was foil involved, yeah, and all I had in that foil and the secret ingredient is butter. Not exciting, but honestly, if you spread a little bit of butter on your fluff and nutter sandwich, just it it's a it's a richness you you don't get if you if you don't.
SPEAKER_01You know, the thing I remember about that wedding vividly is I was so I I think I was 21, maybe 22. Yeah, you you were young, boy. I was young, and I remember I was I was getting drinks at the bar all night, and I was yeah, I was just it was just yeah, I was just drinking drinks all night, and like three-fourths through the night of always going up there and always ordering two drinks, yeah. The guy suddenly he's like, Hey, I gotta card you. I'm like, what? Why? He's like, apparently the uh the brother of the bride is in her 21 and someone's gonna give him drinks. I'm like, oh that's weird. I don't know. What do you mean? I'm like, yeah, those two drinks again, and yeah, they're both for me. There it is.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know, that's why we're friends, and that's why we're talking.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, so that was uh that was our first anal dual analog stick night. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that sounds do you remember too? Like, was there a moment like I think that too was the moment like wasn't there a thing like we needed a cord and we didn't have it? And I had to go to Walmart at like 10 o'clock at night or eleven o'clock at night because we got back to the hotel room and we didn't have the proper cord. Maybe that might have been that night. Memories. So controllers, they've come a long way. Or game pads. Game pads.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, man. Is that what right? Isn't that what they're I don't know. Yeah, anyways. Yeah, they're not really controllers. So I I guess that that just kind of culminates in. I know for a while there I will agree that Xbox was winning the the game. I feel like the the the controllers.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I feel like, yeah, I can probably agree with that.
SPEAKER_01You know, through the uh the 360.
SPEAKER_02One thing Haley always, my wife Haley, she hated about PlayStation. We're talking PS3 and on. Yeah. Was it it would turn on if like what button was pushed? Yeah, if you set the controller down, those those are the triggers. The triggers would always set off your PlayStation. And that's part of the reason why she's still an Xbox person. She hates PlayStation for that reason. As weird as that is, she hated the fact that it always turned the PlayStation on. Like she would just accidentally touch one of the things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, if you just touch the controller, it would it would slide across and yeah, activate that. Yeah. So although the PlayStation always had the better D-pad. And that's not just me saying that. I mean, for fighting games, that became the standard because the remember the Xbox one was like a it was terrible. Yeah, it was like a ball, it was like terrible.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it just didn't have the same, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But then the PlayStation went to the their newest iteration, and yeah, I think they they've surpassed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean they copied Xbox in a lot of ways. Yeah. But the adaptive triggers. Well, that's your big thing. Yeah, I love those.
SPEAKER_02And they are they take immersiveness to a little next level.
SPEAKER_01When you're pulling a bow and you feel that you feel that a little bit of resistance, it hits resistance halfway through.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I do think like it's neat, you know, and that's what the thing is, like you gotta innovate a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. My biggest complaint has always been, and I forget who made that was probably a game informer thing. You know, they made a joke of, you know, it was a quoting a developer like, oh, that big button in the middle is a touchpad. Like so few games take advantage of that. And the one thing I think should be legally required, and so few games do this, the Witcher did this, is swipe up right to the map.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I again I understand you have to make cross-platform games, just let PlayStationers have it better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's what we won.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, uh, they're just yeah, they're just so I don't understand. It's a big waste. I know, and they still use it, they still want people to on the latest iteration, obviously.
SPEAKER_02But the neat thing too, like about PlayStation, and we're Borderlands people, but uh I just remember too, like with Borderlands 3, uh the different guns, like there's a lot of glowing on PlayStation controllers and the older ones, less the newer ones glow less. Yeah, but yeah, they have the LED like around the yeah, and so yeah, not just the top, it used to surround it more, yeah. Yeah, but like it would glow with whatever, like if your gun was whatever, what element? Yeah, whatever element. Fire would be green. Fire red. It wasn't neat.
SPEAKER_01And a little subtle thing.
SPEAKER_02I I yeah. I don't think Xbox has ever done anything. Well, they have any LEDs in there. Uh it's pretty bare bones. It's just a controller, I mean a gamepad. Uh yeah, so I I I think PlayStation has won the war so far, but who knows? I don't know. The controller wars will continue.
SPEAKER_01Unfortunately, for uh most well even though uh Nintendo has some interesting things, they definitely lost for the controller. I mean, yeah, you have to think about like it's just a a plain old gaming pad. Like, what do you want to use? Even their pro their pro controller is yeah, no, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I I I think like yeah, I guess we'll just see where games go. But I do use Xbox with my PC exclusively, which I would say is unfortunate for PlayStation, because it's like I'm so I've been bouncing back and forth now.
SPEAKER_01So I have a I have an Xbox controller. Um I remember you said it was tough more and more supporting uh uh Claire Obscure X position 33. Oh really? Oh supports well, I should say, yes, so it fully supports the the oh my god, what are they called? Dol Shock 3? No, oh my Dol Shock. Yeah, Dol Shock Yeah. I don't know what the number is. Anyways, oh no, no, it's um they're called Dole Sense, they're called Dol Sense now. That's right, that's the current iteration. It fully supports it, even though it doesn't they didn't program in any adaptive triggers. Okay, but if I understand the base game on the PlayStation doesn't either um but yeah, so the button prompts are correct, is what that means. Right. X is X square is square. Yeah, you don't have to figure it out in my head, although I'm so used to translating that now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, even with Nintendo, I've become a little bit more.
SPEAKER_01But it's not yeah, so it's the games are supporting it now. So for that one, I decided, yeah, I'm gonna now how did you hook your controller up? Like, is it just you just I've been I've been doing that one wired. Um I'm almost sure, yeah. I just put on it and use it, just play and play. I'm almost positive I can Bluetooth it, but that requires me to re-sync it between my PC and my and then I have when I'm done I have to resync it to my X uh PlayStation.
SPEAKER_02So but you could just use it wiredly and it's like pretty seamless. I'm working fine. Okay. Well, maybe I'll switch. I just always knew Xbox controllers were like pretty you just turn them on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's why I didn't have to worry about it, but all I think they're realizing, hey, they're all yeah, people can use whatever they want.
SPEAKER_02Are you listeners?
SPEAKER_01Now I am curious. I don't even know if the dull sense have six axis. Remember the whole motion of the motion gyroscopic support? Yeah, I don't know. Did they drop that or is it there and just no one uses it? I would imagine nobody used that. Have you ever really used that? Have you ever really liked it? No. I remember Uncharted one of the uncharted games, you'd use it for grenades. And you would tilt it forward or back to right there. I don't like it. Oh yeah. Well, you know how great I am at throwing grenades.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, there too. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near you, literally, because you blow us the fuck up. Yeah, whatever.
SPEAKER_01That was an interesting innovation that uh yeah, I don't know if it's still there.
SPEAKER_02The Switch still loves that shit.
SPEAKER_01And it works. Yeah, I enjoyed that. We uh played a little bit of we actually gained this time, this podcast. We actually didn't we almost gained last time. Uh not really, not even close.
SPEAKER_02I want to say almost just because it tells me.
SPEAKER_01Which was fun with my daughter. I really enjoyed it. And she loves it. Tiny controllers.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's weird, but I it works. Works for that game.
SPEAKER_01That's all I mean. It took me a little bit to figure out what was going on.
unknownBut yeah.
SPEAKER_01Matt actually did really well.
unknownYeah, didn't it?
SPEAKER_01But your daughter won? Fair and square? Fair and square. Well, slightly fair and square. I think that one mini game it didn't matter.
SPEAKER_02It really didn't. She did really well. So uh yeah. Controllers or game pads, game pads, whatever you want to call it. Not joysticks. Not joysticks. I you know what the joystick always reminds me. Yeah, why am I bringing this up? It doesn't matter. Nobody gives a shit. Uh I played this game for my old tandy computer. Apache. Did you ever play an Apache game? It was a helicopter. Yeah, it was a helicopter. There you go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh it was old school. Kind of. I'm getting an image. Yeah. Inside scrolling? No. Top down. No, no. It was a legit like you flew a helicopter. Like you were in the cockpit. Well, I don't know. What is a helicopter? Is it a cockpit? I don't know. I would imagine. Yeah. Anyway, yeah, like you're you're inside the helicopter and you fly it and it's an Apache, like a military helicopter. Oh, wait. Whoa, whoa, what was this?
SPEAKER_01Wait, so we're not we're not talking.
SPEAKER_02Um this was probably like 91, 92, maybe.
unknownOh no.
SPEAKER_01I wow, you hit me. I remember this game called AH64D Longbow. And it was an Apache simulator game. Oh, really? That's right. That but I think this is later. I think it was late mid to this is mid-90s. Oh, yeah. It was and I remember this, like it literally came with a manual that was like the US government's flight manual. No, this is this is like you literally had to learn how to like it was one of those games where it was in the first games, absolute realism, which meant it was no fun at all.
SPEAKER_02Well, this was close, but hey, I think it was more arcadey. Okay. For some reason, we had a joystick. I don't know why we had a joystick, but we had a big ass, like you know, classic with like a one button and a stick. Yeah, yeah. You know, and uh that game was fucking brutal, and it has nothing, I had nothing more to add than that, but it was it wasn't fun. Controls took a while to work out, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was so cool, but it there was like some element of realism, like you had to know how to fly a fucking helicopter, I feel like.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I remember that was definitely the game I it might be like that.
SPEAKER_02Might be like a you know, like a spinoff or like a sequel or maybe uh Janes.
SPEAKER_01It was called Janes was the company.
SPEAKER_02Well, maybe on respawn next episode, I'll research it. I want to look up because you're you've got to be a little bit more than a little bit maybe we're on on the same wavelength. Maybe it's like I totally ran the soundtrack. Wow. Oh, I thought you were talking about a new intro to respawn.
SPEAKER_01Oh, perfect, perfect. Sway. So here's what I want for respawn. I want you to come up with a little something, okay, and then we'll separately sample me saying respawn. Okay. Then I'm gonna remix it. Oh, okay. And and definitely on my respawn, I'm gonna give my little You got the Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. The only thing I came up with in this not to get I'm I I like your idea, so I'm not saying this is better, but I just I thought of actually making the theme song and playing it in reverse.
SPEAKER_01Maybe I'll do that. I'll throw some reverses in there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I just thought like blackened, you know, if you remember the Metallica song. Shout out to Metallica.
SPEAKER_00There's a reverse part in that?
SPEAKER_02The intro is reverse guitar. I just thought it'd be cool, but a little you know. I don't know. That's the only thing I came up with, but I like your idea too.
SPEAKER_01You know, let me get involved in the songwriting.
SPEAKER_02Well, now that you have a little more time. Yeah, absolutely. I just I don't know, been in the music creative mode now that I got cube. Sorry, Ableton. You've been good, Ableton. Oh yeah, we still love you, Abbleton. Either one of you want to give us money. If you if you give us money, Ableton, I'll go back. But would you really?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_01But I would say I went back. Cubase is the better. It's good, it's yeah, it's way better for recording and mixing, but uh Ableton is great for songwriting.
SPEAKER_02They're plugins.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the star plugins. Yeah, they're pretty good.
Respawn
SPEAKER_01These are just little little corrections that uh maybe uh we rarely get things wrong. We're never wrong. We're just slightly misunderstood.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know. You would yeah. Yeah, sure. Yeah, that's it. That's what it is. My the one I think I know what it is. Yeah, this one is uh You've been really upset about it. It's such a stupid thing. I just so it was what I always listen to our call to our podcasts. I I enjoy it. They're funny. I think they're funny. This is the only reason we're still doing this because I leave some feedback if you think it's funny. We were talking about this is almost a tangent, it's definitely a tangent. We're talking about Mist and Mist. Um geez. Uh the sequel, the sequel to Mist, if you will. And how the actor that was in the sequel to Mist was also in Lord of the Wings, Rings. Yeah. And neither one of us could A remember, well, we couldn't remember any sword names. We're terrible names. Yeah, if you listen closely. Closely, at one point you say, Oh, his name was Snape. I'm like, Yes, that was it. Because we obviously confused um Harry Potter. We offended a lot of nerds. Yeah. And I'm like, because I'm listening to that back, and my I'm just screaming it in my in my car at my console is Gream a worm tongue. Gream a worm tongue. So that was the character. Yeah, yeah. Theodin's, and we couldn't remember Theodon either. So there's a lot of things to learn. Yeah. The King of Rohan.
SPEAKER_02Theodon. Which is actually one of my favorite characters. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01R.I.P.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01But his right hand man, who was actually the one poisoning him. Yeah. Um, but not Snape. Yeah, but at the behest of Saruman was uh Gream a Worm Tongue. Gream a worm tongue. Uh played by the actor Michael Deacon.
SPEAKER_02I never knew his name.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I wrote that down because we're gonna correct this, we're gonna correct this. We're going all out. Who uh also played the bad guy in Mist. Riven, the sequel to Mist.
SPEAKER_02Uh The Riven. So, all you nerds, if you're gonna write us now.
SPEAKER_01They already have.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, they haven't, but um If they if you're well, if you have, if you wrote a book.
SPEAKER_02We're talking about time travel right now. If you wrote a letter and you hate us because we got Snape confused with cream or worm tongue, which is I don't know, they both wear black. Yeah, and they have black hair.
SPEAKER_01And are they kind of perceived as the bad guys, even though we all know in the end Snape wasn't, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Wow, I don't know about Snape. Right? That was the Well, yeah. I mean, he was the good guy, I guess. Yeah. I just I don't give a shit about Harry Potter.
SPEAKER_03But I don't.
SPEAKER_02Sorry. And uh that's my hot take. Alright. So we fucked up, nerds. I'm sorry. And I'm sorry. I apologize. It's Grima, worm tongue, and not Snape. So what's your next one, man?
SPEAKER_01Uh so you you don't have any?
SPEAKER_02Uh not off the top of my head.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And I I mentioned this earlier, talking about uh South of Midnight and the music behind it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, oh yeah, you said you wanted to get that follow-up.
SPEAKER_01So um I was sort of wrong. So it does have one main composer. His name is uh Olivier Um Deravier. I'm I'm I'm sure I'm doing that wrong. He's written for other games such as Plague Tale. I remember liking the music on that. And it's interesting him talking about you know, creating music for this. He wanted to you know capture that vibe, and he'd never really written I mentioned this songs for a game before, you know, just always music for the background, but he actually wanted to create songs. And um, compulsion is the uh studio that that the developer of that game. And as more he went down the kind of rabbit hole what he wanted to do, he realized I can't do this on my own. I'm gonna have to, you know, bring in other musicians. So they actually ended up bringing in 50 other musicians.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so you're right, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, uh, between singers and just uh instrumentalists and whatnot. And and good for compulsion. He's like he he one time talking, it was like, all right, here's my vision. It is way over the budget you imagined, but they like agreed with his vision and like all right, uh cool, let's do it. So that's how the soundtrack came to be. And yeah, and it shows and it just it it as I said, it makes the game, makes the game better, makes the game. So especially a game like this where it became an integral part of the yeah of the story.
SPEAKER_02That's really cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so awesome. South of Midnight again, highly recommended do it, do it, do it.
SPEAKER_02Alright. Yeah, I mean, I wish I had something, but I'm sure we got a lot wrong, but nothing off the top of my head.
SPEAKER_01Nothing we can actually care about.
SPEAKER_02And I'll I'll probably remember tomorrow and I'll be like, oh shit.
SPEAKER_01Talk about next podcast.
SPEAKER_02But you know, yeah, there'll be an episode seven. Right. Hopefully.
News
SPEAKER_02And now time for the news.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you were you you would stop by my house because we're uh planning Fire K 2.0. And we were talking a little bit about state of play.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it was interesting because the yeah, a day or two later, I I well, I didn't watch a whole state of play. I watched like a synopsis of you know, best trailers of state of play or something like that. Yeah, I'm looking at it, I'm like, wow, there's a lot of shit. And then um Epic had their own showcase, and I'm like, wow, there's a lot more stuff, and then I noticed um uh there was so just there was a lot of trailers dropping. I'm like, this is weird, and then it hit me this would have been E3 had we still have an E3.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, E3 is done, right?
SPEAKER_01So there have just been so many trailers. There was Summer Game Fest still happening, right? With our boy uh you know, Jeff Keeley. Apparently got there was some hate thrown at him for yeah, and I just ignored it because I I don't know. I mean, I love Jeff. He's he's trying. Like he I feel like he is you know, the game awards have come a long way. Yeah, and I feel they're getting up there with the Oscars, you know. And well, no, I mean, no, no, the Oscars kind of suck too. So, but I mean, he's trying to legitimize gaming and he's done the best he can. And I feel he's our best champion. So I feel don't hate on him. He's he's he's doing I think the one of the things was remember the whole the this game was only developed by under 30 people. That's what kind of started it. And I guess there was other I don't know, but don't hate on Jeff. We like Jeff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, or just hire us, we'll host the game awards, that's fine.
SPEAKER_01So I guess what I'm getting at is there are a ton of games announced. Yeah, and I don't know if I want to talk about all of them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I mean I saw those quite a bit. I mean, why don't we I mean you can not talk about them all, or we could just kind of go over them quickly, however you want to do them. All right.
SPEAKER_01I yeah, let's do that. Let's just talk about some of the ones that I really just talk about the highlights. Well the the big one is, and I mentioned this to you, there was, and I knew about his going in. Um, so one of the uh creators of Final Fantasy Tactics before this happened, yeah. Yeah, he hinted like everyone should tape, take notice of the state of play coming up. And everyone's like, Woo! Everybody got a horny. And I'm I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed because it wasn't a it it's it was a it's a Final Fantasy, it's not a remake, it's just kind of more of a remaster. Um they're doing two, it's interesting, they're doing two things. So they're doing a Final Fantasy for one back up a little here. A lot of Final Fantas games were re-released on other consoles, and they're been knowing for being playing poorly, they're like slow in just not being great ports. So this is a two-fold thing for the price of one game. You get two versions of you basically get the original, but plays well on modern shit. And the other one is a kind of a remaster, so better graphics. Uh supposedly the menu system and the gameplay is updated a little bit, and full voice acting, which is cool. I'm I'm down with that. As far as I can tell, they didn't touch the music, which is interesting to me because one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. So it's neat that I didn't touch it, but yet I kind of would like to hear like an orchestration of it, you know, non-PS1 kind of music. Yeah, that would be nice. Oh, I so I'm very, very torn. I will absolutely play it. I actually would buy. I've been wanting to redo this game in a long time, but it just hasn't been redone. So I guess this is exactly what I wanted, even though I want more.
SPEAKER_02Uh it's that's a gamer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Uh this game, this is the first game I ever played over 100 hours of. I definitely remember that. Um, it's also one of the first games I ever wanted to snap in half and throw in a river. Sounds about right. So it is a it's a tactical RPG. Um, meaning it's it's just your isometric isometric view, and the the battles are not only turn-based, but they're grid-based.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean.
SPEAKER_01So you can uh only move in certain squares in a certain amount of times. And it was a tough it was a tough game, it was a challenging game, but I remember I got to a point where it was a one-on-one battle. And I could not beat it. It was me versus you know, like a boss, and I could not beat it. With a tactical game, you are limited. There's not, I mean, there's only there's a finite amount of moves you can make. Yeah, you know what I mean? Because you have like so many spells, so many squares you can move, and the the enemy, especially in those days, had it like it's a very limited pattern what they could do. I just could not be, could not be this guy. I literally lent this game out to uh a friend, and like he's like, Oh, I'm really good at this game. I know guys really good at this game. Uh we'll try to beat. So I literally lent him my copy of the game and my memory card. I gave him my mem my precious memory card.
SPEAKER_02What the fuck?
SPEAKER_01Ah, I know. And he literally gave it back in a couple days. I was like, Yeah, yeah, you're fucked. You can't beat it. This is you know, this is like high school. So what I had to do with that, I luckily I had actually I don't remember. No, I never I know I didn't have to start over.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Because I wouldn't have back in those days. But I had to go back quite a bit. And that was the game that taught me to do more of a staggered save system. Like nowadays, I do usually do a four-tier system. Let's talk about this. Let's hear about your let's talk about this. So I go to four-tier systems. So two save fouls just back and forth, back and forth. Every time I save, it's save file one, save file two. That's lightweight shit. And then there's always a save file three, which is every maybe hour or so. And then there's save file four, which is every chapter, act, whatever. Really? So that way I never have to go luckily a couple hours, or to worst case scenario, just to the back to that back chapter. Yeah, and that was the game that taught me, man. That was the big the that was the most important one I would talk about. Um the tactics is of near and dear to me. Yeah, that was one of your the story I feel was very good in just the music. I absolutely love the music. Yeah, the music's important. Uh, not Nobuo Yamatsu, actually. Um, it was by a oh my, I want to say husband and wife, that's probably completely wrong. Um, well, respawn next episode.
SPEAKER_02That's why that's why we do it. That's why respawn exists. We fuck up shit.
SPEAKER_01I at one point in my life wanted to I tried to VHS all the cutscenes to Final Fantasy tactics to make a movie. That's a cool thing. I didn't got very long, but I didn't get very far. Uh but it's very it's a very neat story, it's very medieval. That was that was a game I liked it because you know Final Fantasy's been all over the place, timeline, right? Yeah, not time, but that's one of the number reasons I can't get into it.
SPEAKER_02It's too across the board.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but this one was super medieval. Like Game of Thronesy, very knights and yeah, oh very much so. It was a war between two like warring families fighting over the throne.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that sounds cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think you would actually absolutely love the story. You should sound like it would be a movie.
unknownI thought about that.
SPEAKER_01Of all the Final Fantasy thing, I think that one, especially, yeah, it really remember the actual movie? Oh, Spirits Within.
SPEAKER_02Didn't we go as a like or Steve?
SPEAKER_01Oh you remember that? Dr. Aki Ross, she was on the cover of GQ or something, yeah. She was like the first like hot CGI. Yeah, I remember that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she was hot. That movie was it was beautiful. Yeah, it was it was at the time. At the time, it was it holds up. We should rewatch it and see how much it holds up.
SPEAKER_01Well, I bet it better has a moment. So the next game on there that I want to talk about, and I don't know how to say this, I always say I Lindsay told me it was Lumines.
SPEAKER_02I trust Lindsay.
SPEAKER_01Um, I always said Luminous, but mines makes sense. Yeah, because shit blows up. Yeah. Um, but it's Lou Mines Arise. Uh there's been a lot of games in this series, but this is like it has been a while, it has been a uh release. So um I'm interested. Yeah. Um, so it's kind of like Tetris, but a little more active and and battly. There's a lot of like, you know, sparkly graphics and things like that. Yeah, that's true. Uh it kind of reminds me of uh Super Puzzle Fighter. Turbo 2. Oh, is it was it because it yeah, because that game was kind of like a Street Fighter, but it's a puzzle game. Is that what it was? All right, yeah, so it was very like a battle game. And um yeah, yeah. Now remember, Lindsay always kicked my ass in it. Just like you and Steve always kicked my ass in Super Puzzle Fighter 2. Um, because I don't think it was ever Super Puzzle Fighter 1, right? It was just going with like the whole Street Fighter thing.
SPEAKER_02Like we just yeah, it was a play on yeah, it was just uh spinoff.
SPEAKER_01But it's a fun game. Yeah, it's very it's a puzzle game, but uh has like techno music and shit blows up, but it's a lot of fun. So I'm I'm looking very forward to uh playing that in uh Lindsay. Uh well yeah, we know Lindsay's listened to at least one episode. She listened to the first one, we know. Okay, so she hopefully will have to listen to more to hear about her.
SPEAKER_02Well, why don't you tell her? I'll tell her name drop.
SPEAKER_01I'll tell her, hey, we talked about you, but we're telling you which episode. No, just keep listening. And if you do hear and tell us which episode we talked about you, I will challenge you to uh Lou Mines Arise. And winner, winner, take all. Winner, winner. Alright. So that's cool. That's a good one. All right, and another one which uh I don't know if you've heard about. Uh I thought you would because I know it's brand it's it's you, yeah. It's Bloodstained Scarlet Engagement, which is a I don't say sequel, but it's it's it's it's a new new bloodstained game.
SPEAKER_02Wow, you're blowing my mind, man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I um you didn't hear about this. No, I uh I mean you obviously love the game. I do. Uh it's I I did you beat it? I did beat it. I actually, yeah.
SPEAKER_02One of the games you beat.
SPEAKER_01It actually is a game beat, surprisingly. So that but that game came out in a weird time. I want to say it was during COVID.
SPEAKER_02Sounds about right.
SPEAKER_01I'm not, I'm pretty sure. And it it so you know, I never really played Soton. I never but I know about the game all in all. And I know that Bloodstain was you watched me play that game. Yeah, I've definitely watched you. Yeah, I know you've you've 200%. Was it 210%? Like 200, yeah, like 100%. Yeah, something like that. But Bloodstained is so I want to call it a ripoff, but it is it's I always say it's just under it, it it just barely goes under the lawsuit. Right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're just right under that. Yeah. But the guy who created that yeah, he's part of Blood. It's basically all him, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it's an homage, but by the guy that created it. Because obviously he's a good one. So I feel like it gets a little leeway. Yeah, yeah. Right, right. Which is amazing that I'm assuming that's Capcom? Probably.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Capcom.
SPEAKER_01So, I mean, it's it's a ton of fun. And this is I don't know if it's a sequel or prequel, but it's definitely like a full, full game.
SPEAKER_02Is it the same chick? What's her name?
SPEAKER_01Bloodstained. Bloodstained. That's her name. I can't remember. Uh I'm surprised she wasn't either one of our uh crushes, actually. She was pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Speaking of crushes, this reminded me I was playing um, no, I wasn't playing it. I was watching somebody else play it, uh, Ocarine of Time, throwback to our other segment. Yeah, that's probably on part one at this point. Maybe part one of three. Yeah, who knows? We get we're we're we we talk a lot. Uh but yeah, like we were talking about crushes, and uh I uh time there's this great fairy. Navy? Not Navi. Uh but there's uh but yeah, there's this great fairy in her she's got you know for Nintendo 64, she was pretty sweet. I don't know. You don't remember her? Nope, I do not. The Great Fairy or I don't know. She had like like if you remember like I don't want to get too much trouble with my wife, but if you remember Madonna, like in those crazy horn titties. But it was polygon titties, all right. She had big polygon titties, okay. Yeah, if you're into that, yeah. Which uh if you're gaming, you probably are. So enjoy. So yeah, blood saying we're looking forward to uh the new game. That's what we were talking about. Yeah, yeah. Alright. Sorry. I just thought about polygon tits.
SPEAKER_01That's all. It's it's fine, that's all that really matters.
SPEAKER_02All right. Is there any more on your polygon t?
SPEAKER_01Uh the other thing on the specifically for state of play was oh no, this wasn't state of play. Um, this was the Unreal thing that followed it. Uh, the Witcher 4 trailer.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01More of a tech demo. It was actually an Unreal Tech demo.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, oh man, I'm glad you brought that up because that I I didn't write it down, but that I really wanted to really that whole squiggle right there that wasn't uh Witcher 4 tech demo.
SPEAKER_01Talk about sinew of horses. Yes.
SPEAKER_02They did talk about that. And uh, you know, and I watching that tech demo, I was over the moon, and I I just was like, this is crazy.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad it went to Unreal.
SPEAKER_02But somebody also said this is a tech demo, so let's not get too excited.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I think every time I've seen an Unreal tech demo, yeah, the end product is better if not just as good. Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, if you're optimistic, I am.
SPEAKER_01I because I I don't know if you remember, like I feel like a lot of the problems with um cyberpunk was them learning how to make the game, right? Not making the game, but all the technical aspects about that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So just we're talking about like third-party middleware, yeah. I think if they have the power of Epic behind them, who basically has limited limitless money because of Fortnite, yeah, who just wants to show off their shit. Yeah, so if they're helping CD Project Red make the game, and it's not just the visuals, it's the background chatter.
SPEAKER_02How cool is that? Yeah, like people were really alive and living and doing things.
SPEAKER_01I am already positive I'm never gonna beat that game because I don't be standing in town square just listening to conversations.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but you know what I also found really great about it was I love um I call almost called her Siri, but what's her name? Not Siri? Well, her name's not is it Siri? That's the that's the Amazon girl in In The Witcher?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Siri is the the is that her whole name?
SPEAKER_02What's Cyrilla? Okay. I don't know, I felt like I was getting it wrong. As I get so much shit wrong. No, man, it's yeah, her name's Siri. Okay, I just pictured Amazon. Uh but yeah, I loved her character. Like, I don't know, even in that little video, she was like she had her own personality, but she was cool. She was it was just like a vibe. I'll just say there's a vibe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm excited to spend time with her. Yeah, see what the whole game is about.
SPEAKER_02I love the whole Norwegian town that she was in. In yeah, that was so cool. You don't get to see that too much in video games. I don't know. If that's what they're working on, and that's honestly like it's not just some showcase for Unreal.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, we it's gonna be.
SPEAKER_02I just I I'm waiting because some people say just hold off. And I agree. I I got really excited.
SPEAKER_01I there I in my mind, after if you will, the debacle that was cyberpunk. And remember, remember, I wanted them to just give up, move on. Yeah, you did. Didn't the the way they redeemed themselves in that game, there is no way this game ain't coming out amazing.
SPEAKER_02All right, well, let's keep going. What's going on, man? What else?
SPEAKER_01So what the what here's what I want to point out, and this is watching all of these trailers, yeah. Uh like that, you know, I watched a lot of compilation videos that had like all the shows back to back to back. Yeah, right. So it's like a it was like a 15-minute video of like six or seven tr trailers. Every ad break was the same motherfucking Minecraft movie trailer.
SPEAKER_02It's not that good.
SPEAKER_01I like you're not gonna almost hate the movie now. Yeah. Because that I must have watched over the course of all these things, I must have watched that trailer 20 times. I don't understand YouTube's algorithm. It's like you're what are you doing? Like it was is literally for every it was bam, bam, bam, bam. Every like three minutes I watched the scene.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's not that good. I mean, I I talked a lot of good and about it, but it's not that good.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that trailer just made me want to not watch it. Like YouTube, what are you doing? You're ruining it. Yeah, you're definitely ruining it. But yeah, that whole side note, whatever, whatever, whatever. So, did you not watch any of uh Summer Game Fest videos? Have you seen any of those ones? Nope. I guess the only one I want to touch touch upon real quick is uh the Game of Thrones game.
SPEAKER_02There's like a new, uh like it's uh I think it's an RTS real-time strategy game. I heard about it. I don't know anything about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't I don't really know or care about that. Yeah, um the other uh Atomic Heart 2. I'm surprised they're making a sequel to Atomic Heart. Just period. Yeah, that was that Russian weird game with the oh the the shiny titties. Remember the robots with the uh no? No, but I like it. Yeah, um I played a little bit of the game. I that's a whole discussion. But I'm excited that it's a sequel, it might be interesting.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um other than that, uh oh musha. They'll make it bring Odomusha's coming back.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that game. Everybody talks about that. Never played? No. Is that a Nintendo 64, right?
SPEAKER_01No, that's a PlayStation.
SPEAKER_02Oh, PlayStation 1. But that's a very popular game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's like series. I think it was three of them. Really? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I just remember that's a game people love.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and there's a very samurai kind of okay.
SPEAKER_02Nah, never played it. Never really cared about it.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So that's your news? Uh, one more, two more. Uh Liza P is coming out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, with an expansion, right?
SPEAKER_01An expansion. Um, I guess this is pretty this podcast. I I love that game. That was all my game of the year for the year that came out. What was that last year then? Um, no, Liza, that was like two years ago. Oh, that long ago. I think oh yeah, yeah, it was the same year as Island Wake. Then we the only reason it wasn't my game of the year is because of Alan Wake, too. Alan Wake, yeah. Um Liz of P, you know, is the the Pinocchio game. Yeah. Um, the Dark Souls Pinocchio game. And but that was my problem. It was fucking hard. And I never I got pretty far. The only reason it beat it, you know, same thing with all those, those, I don't say all those souls borne games. I want to say specifically the only one I really played was Elden Ring. It wasn't it wasn't the bosses, it was the mini bosses I struggled with. Yeah, they are difficult. Because the mini, at least with the bosses, you had you could summon a help.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And Liz P was the same way. For the main boss, you could summon a helper. So it was those mini bosses that were killing me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And like the next to last, like the last mini boss. I just I I couldn't do it. I just couldn't do it. So finally, with this expansion, they're adding difficulty settings. So if I wanted to, I could go back and beat the game. Actually beat the game. If you want. And I know it's a lot, that's a point of contention with like Dark Souls, is like, oh, should we make difficulty? They don't. And they and they don't ever. But again, I I never beat Elden Ring. You never oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you never did.
SPEAKER_01The thing that thing that'll ruin a game for me is a multi-stage boss battle where if you lose, you have to start all the way at the beginning. Yeah, and that's how the final boss is.
SPEAKER_02It is, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like, I am all about games should be accessible to everyone. Yeah. You know, even if even if you have something physically wrong with you, you know, it's not that that's not me. I'm not saying that, but except maybe it's a good thing. I can't parry for shit. But I don't know. I feel like the more people the more people can enjoy a game and finish a game, the better. So that's all I'll say about that. That's a hot take. It's a hot take. So I'm glad um Liza P finally did that. I will not, I'm not gonna go back to the game. You're not gonna play it. I don't remember how to play the game. The comments.
SPEAKER_02Thank you, Liza P. But thank you. Yeah, thank you.
SPEAKER_01Uh the last thing I'm talking about is a Deadpool VR game. I don't know if you someone knows that. Yeah, Deadpool has a VR game coming out, and it's great. Neil Patrick Harris is actually playing Deadpool, and Ryan Reynolds has already done put out some uh like he did a silly shit. He did a fantastic uh Doogie Hauser MD parody, like mad about the fact they got replaced by Neil Patrick Harris is fantastic. I want you to go watch it. Well, go watch it, everybody. So ah, man. And you still have more. I have so that was all my like E3 news, like trailers and talks. I have one more actual news thing, but I don't know if you have anything news.
SPEAKER_02I do, but I I'm interested. Keep going, man.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, my other my my one news thing is I find this funny when like a random company that does just accidentally spills the beans on like a release or something like that. Remember with um uh Oblivion, uh the remake Oblivion, it was uh I forget how did that get leaked? It was something dumb.
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_01Uh but um a company called PureArts who makes figurines, not crappy ones, like yeah, we talked about that last episode. They make a lot of them for Assassin's Creed games.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01And someone they were all reincursing their new line, and they did not have uh Edward Kenway, which is the protagonist for Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01I actually watched the video, and someone was like, Well, why don't we have him? It's like, well, I mean, uh, he kind of paused, he's like, you know, something might be happening. And like the part on the left, you know, is like, uh, yeah, I think I think it's released. I think everyone knows about that by now. He's like, oh yeah, so he's gonna be changing with the new upcoming uh thing, and they just kind of move along. So basically, he's like confirmed that they're doing a remaster of Assassin's Creed Black Flag in the dumbest way possible. Wow, yeah, which is it's interesting to me because that is the not remaster, remake. I'm sorry, remake.
unknownNo remake.
SPEAKER_01That is one of the only clear it up. What's a remake and a remaster? So remaster is basically just clean up the visuals, okay, maybe clean up the um the menus and the kind of the combat to bring up the the modern standards. Right. A remaster is a complete redo of the game.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01There we go. Yeah, like Final Fantasy Rebirth. Yeah. A remake. We're just a remake. It's a completely different game.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, that's a difference.
SPEAKER_02All right, thanks, mate.
SPEAKER_01Um, so yeah, apparently Black Flag is getting a remake. Um that's one of your you like no, that was one of what that is one of the few I've never played. Oh, okay. That was one during my burnout period. Okay, so you were kind of like Yeah, I took a year off and missed three games because they were just up in the house so much.
SPEAKER_02Hey guys, Irish twins, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, so I everyone said it's funny, everyone says that's their favorite game. And I'm like, hmm.
SPEAKER_02Are you gonna play it? Do you say that?
SPEAKER_01Remaster. You know, no, I don't remember which one it is. We're all confused over here. Um, I I I don't know. We'll see. We'll see when it comes to the. You're the Assassin of the Creed, man. I know. Uh well, you know, I'm I'm I'm still playing Shadows very, very, very slowly. You love it though. I do. Still love it. Still love it. More and more I play it, more I like it.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, good.
SPEAKER_01I Oh, your news.
SPEAKER_02Well, are you done? I'm done.
SPEAKER_01That's believe it or not, that's all I have.
SPEAKER_02My news is pretty dumb.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I will say Oh, I didn't. Okay. We're gonna talk about my idea for the news segment.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01So think about like the news preempts in like the 80s and 90s. Like I just want something short and sweet like that, you know, like now time for the news.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, something like fun and flashy, but yeah, not crazy.
SPEAKER_01Channel Joe Denardo. That's what I want.
SPEAKER_02That's what I pictured, actually. Thank you. All right, Andrew, throwing it back to you. What's the new what what news you got? Well, nothing quite as awesome as your news. Uh, but did you hear about the Switch 2 controversy with Staples? Uh no. Okay. Yeah, this was a silly little story, but apparently people were getting Switch 2s, which is the latest Switch console. Uh they were getting them shipped, and they were noticing these two little marks on the actual screen of the console. Yes, it's a hint, it's a handheld device for the most part. And it turns out these marks were from literally GameStop stapling receipts onto the box. Oh, GameStop, you're already hurting, man. Come on. Which is kind of like, yeah, you would say that too. I agree. But also, like, why were why is Nintendo shipping their consoles? Apparently, like the top of the screen is like all that is separating it from a staple is like a thin piece of cardboard. Oh, yeah, yeah. Like, why wouldn't they have like packaging?
SPEAKER_00A little more protection than that.
SPEAKER_02And that's what people are complaining about. So it looks like there's gonna be some reworks on their shipping boxes. I don't know. But that's the that was like the early controversy of many with like Nintendo as far as like pricing and all that, but that was uh a silly little thing, but yeah. So people were getting messed up screens, but they corrected it, I guess, to some degree. That's good. But yeah, cool. Let's see what else I have. Uh uh, not much. Oh, yeah. Did you hear about the um Elden Ring movie? No.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're gonna make a movie. That's all I got. Oh like a David Lynch, like maybe incomprehensible, just yeah, and then like only 30% of the audience makes it out alive.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let me ask you, Matt, you played Elden Ring, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I said I I almost beat it. You almost beat it in my mind, I beat it. Did you follow anything? No, no, I enjoyed stuff. Yeah. If if if you asked me right now, gun to my head, describe the plot. Okay. No. Good. I have no idea. Thank you. I have no idea. I feel better. I feel like I mean, I mean generally. Yeah. Like, what are you doing? Well, I'm fighting. I'm not dying. I'm trying to not die. Good.
SPEAKER_02Because part of me with like games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls, I feel or or even uh what was the um uh Bloodborne.
SPEAKER_01Bloodborne. But I feel probably had the closest to a comprehensive plot.
SPEAKER_02But I always feel like with those games, I'm like the art person that just doesn't like I'm I will admit feeling.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm a nitwit, and I don't have like the insight, but I also feel like like but there are stories like there are some stories within it I don't remember now, but I don't have the time remembering.
SPEAKER_02I always feel like oh man, I I just I I need to be better, but I I you know it makes me feel better when somebody like you because you you you actually pay attention to shit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I do.
SPEAKER_02And so like if you're not getting it, I feel like it there's not a lot of hope for me. So I feel it's good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But there is something. I mean, yeah. People base their whole lives on that. A plot happens. So not not sure what that is. I had more, but I I think I've messed it all up. I think uh uh Silent Hill came out with a new Sign Hill Forte.
SPEAKER_01We're still signing it's Forte.
SPEAKER_02Alright, yeah. So that but Sign Hillsf. Um but yeah, uh that's all I got, I guess. So uh for those I'm gonna show Matt. Uh this is the shirt for the people or for the person who got the correct password. I I just wanted to show Matt. This is the shirt. Well, Liana designed.
SPEAKER_01I love it. And you you you want this shirt. Is that the the front or is that wrap around the entire that's just the front. Oh, I was hoping it kind of started here. Yeah, going all the way around.
SPEAKER_02No, not quite. I don't know if you can even do that. Yeah. No, that is uh it's a Liana original. Wow. Yep. And that's that's that's the I asked her to draw something about gaming and she drew that.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that you want that, folks. I guess we gotta sign it, huh?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we'll see. I was debating about your sister. I I I feel like it's between her and Steve Miller.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I agree. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I didn't want to buy it. I was gonna buy it and have it ready, but I don't know the person's size. I I didn't want to assume. So it'll be a way. And also, if you want Matt's undershirt, which that's still on board. Yeah, I mean it's your choice, I guess. Yeah.
unknownYeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Matt's thinking about his undershirts. Matt only has like two, so he can't afford more.
SPEAKER_01All right. Support the podcast so I can afford more undershirts. All right. Um let's move on. There's a bit more. How are we gonna move on to future quests? Oh yeah, future quests.
Future Quests
SPEAKER_02Alright, go ahead, man. Future quests. Uh uh, did you hear about the game called Monster Train? At all? No.
SPEAKER_01Um like two choo Charlie. I don't even know what that means. No, you're fighting a sentient train?
SPEAKER_02Uh not even close. Okay. I never played Monster Train. Well, this is Monster Train 2. Oh. But I never played one. No. But I work with a guy who's really into these kind of games. But it's a deck building game. Not a dick, but a deck. In case I mispronounced. It's a deck building game. Right. So it's like uh, you know, Magic the Gathering or whatever. Yeah. Uh or uh Tower of Peril. Tower of Peril. One of the best games I've ever played.
SPEAKER_01What was that uh deck building game that um Bridges of Athertorn?
SPEAKER_02Bridges of Athertorn. Matt is coming up with some amazing names.
SPEAKER_01Just keep going with this. I was on the PlayStation. You got me into it. I played it a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's the game. Tell everybody that game, man. No, yeah, Matt's right. It's it's uh it's okay. He he's close, but it's it's just a deck building game. Um and you you know, I I don't know. I I honestly have no clue anything about it, but I'm excited. And that's all I got. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01It's a future. Oh, I mean, I it's it's a quest that you're hoping to uh do in the future.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I can't say much more.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Um Do you want me to say more, man? No, I I just Are you gonna play the game?
SPEAKER_01Probably not. I'm still trying to remember that game that the that that you know the deck building game where you uh do the the thing and you go up the towers. Spire? Spire? Oh, you tell me Slay the Spire! Yeah, slay the Spire. Yes, I enjoyed that. Yeah, that's what this is.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay. It's a slay the spire kind of I got there. Yeah, man. I have five. I have five. We got this, we got this shit. But that's my probably one of my next games, but when's it coming out or is it out? Uh I believe it's out already.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well, that that then makes it possible for you to play then.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Good. That's true. Me, I um I I will I will beat avowed before the next podcast.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_01I have to. I mean, again, I'm only a few hours away. So I'm gonna beat a vowed. Okay, and then I'm gonna dive right into Claire Obscure Expedition 33. I'm pretty sure that is the first time this podcast we have correctly said the entire title of that game.
SPEAKER_02It sounded good. It sounded great. I'm always embarrassed I can't get it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's it's a lot. I'm not sure which is the subtitle and the other one, the Claire Obscure is the pre-title. It that's weird. It's French, whatever. Jar PG. But yeah, that that is that is my goals. You're gonna finish it. Yeah, I mean finish. Or at least finish uh avowed. Avowed.
SPEAKER_02Um and then go on to wait, like early, you haven't really rated Avowed. Where are you at?
SPEAKER_01But I think I'm close enough, it's not gonna change eight and a half.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's strong though. Good eight and a half.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, good eight and a half. Um flaws, a little bit of flaws, some flaws, and yeah, I I am like probably 80 hours through. Again, I don't understand how some people say this is a 20-hour game. I uh I mean, I guess I could just run through it. I'm actually literally I tried running through some of these parts now, but like yeah, um it yeah, it it it's just dragging on a little bit now. Uh but yeah, I other than now I've enjoyed my entire time with it. So yeah, um recommend. Yeah, eight and a half, strong, strong eight and a half. So talking about the future quest of this uh podcast here, hopefully next episode. Is there a future of this podcast? I don't know. Well, yeah, yeah, I feel like we'll see. Yeah, we'll see. But I'm uh hoping to have moved into a new spot. Uh yeah, we've talked about alluded a little bit to it, Fire K 2.0. And we'll have a uh nice acoustically treated room for me and you to uh talk nonsense in, and possibly even uh video uh I don't want to promise, you know, too much. So we have to see if it's gonna, you know, work on many levels. Uh editing's gonna edit. But uh I know everyone's been dying to see our beautiful faces. Um so we gotta give the audience what they want. Yeah, they do want it. They want to see us live, they want to see us uh react and uh drink gin.
SPEAKER_02We haven't drank a lot of gin today.
SPEAKER_01Um I don't think I guess uh I don't know, uh Andrew, do you uh have anything more to and add uh to this incredibly long, possibly three-part episode. Three parts? Um no. Alright, good.
SPEAKER_02I am Maddie Flames, Andrew Wildes.
SPEAKER_01And uh remember, folks, uh condom only breaks once.
